Jerry LLamas

Jerry grew up around the industry and learned a love of landscaping in all its forms from his dad. When Jerry moved here as a teenager from the LA area, he wasted no time in setting up a lawn mowing business. After college, he earned a Nevada Contractor's License and expanded his scope to sprinkler installation and landscaping. Then in 1988 he and Kathy were able to open up a nursery to the public. J & K LLamas Landscape & Nursery started out on a small little lot on Taylor Place and has now evolved to the 3-1/2 acre location on the Reno Highway. He has a passion to offer people an oasis in their yard. He believes that a homeowner should be able to come home and enjoy their yard as an additional living space. He also believes that a homeowner should only spend as much time and effort on the yard as they want. To that end, Jerry spends a lot of time talking to the homeowner(s), planning, laying out a job, installing it and then following up with the homeowner. When Jerry is not busy giving estimates, designing, laying out a job or any of his many other duties you will find him coaching whatever sport is in season and his kids are involved in.

Kathy LLamas
Certified Nevada Nurseryman
When Kathy first married Jerry she didn't even know what a petunia was! How far she has come! Her desire to learn about what her husband was passionate about set her in motion. She immersed herself in books, videos, classes and other nurseries, and the tutoring of her father-in-law to learn as much as she could. Being a registered nurse as well, she had a vast understanding of plants and their uses in people's lives. Together with Jerry they began to plan a full service nursery and gift shop. She has applied her desire to provide Fallon and the surrounding areas with the highest quality and largest selection of plants, truly one-of-a-kind gifts and friendliest and most knowledgeable staff. The nursery and gift shop have “grown” in no small part to a desire to provide the best of everything and always create a sense of wonder. Kathy still continues her work as a nurse at the local hospital in addition to working in the nursery. When she isn't at the nursery or hospital she can be found volunteering her time with various children's sporting events.

Our Guru
Jerry has been in the “Green Industry” for more than 53 years! He moved to America in 1954 and got a job at the San Gabriel Nursery in San Gabriel, CA. He started out as a salesman at the 10 acre retail facility/20,000 acre growing facility (including greenhouses.) While there he was taught the art of Oriental Landscaping—including bonsai, topiary and shaping of all sorts of plant material by a gentleman named Mr. Yoshimura and Mr. Kishi. After that he graduated from Pasadena City College with a degree that encompassed soil erosion control methods, plant ID, landscape design, irrigation, pesticides, herbicides, troubleshooting and many other topics. He came to Fallon with his wife and family in 1976. He currently holds several certificates in fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, pesticides, etc. and a Nevada Contractor's License. He is invaluable here at the nursery with his knowledge and friendly smile for our customers and staff.

Kim Klenakis ISA Certified Arborist (2004), Nevada Certified Nurseryman (2004)
Kim was born and raised right here in Churchill County. Living in Northern Nevada has given her a lifelong interest in the outdoors. Kim really enjoys working with her hands. Her enthusiasm for things grown and created spills over onto her customers. Kim has been with J&K LLamas for over four years. She is the Administrative Assistant and an all around Jill-of-all-trades. She enjoys sharing her knowledge through the many classes she teaches. Some include growing and cooking with herbs, potted plant care, water features, rose care and what ever strikes her curiosity. Kim really enjoys taking time with individual customers and giving them the benefit of her training.

Lisa Powell
Office Manager, Nevada Certified Nurseryman 2002
Lisa joined us at J & K LLamas in the spring of 2001 coming and originally hails from Minnesota. We are so happy to have her with us! She is our resident “risk taker”. She is never intimidated by the fact that a plant may not be zoned for here—she'll try anything and let you know! Lisa has had some stunning successes in this area. With Lisa also keeps our Gift Shop and Office humming smoothly! In her off time you will find her outdoors enjoying nature, her family and her dogs—which makes her a great person to ask how to incorporate plants, animals and pest controls!

Isidro Hernandez
Isidro is our all around guy and a wonderful asset to our nursery! He often takes care of things for us before we know something needs attention! He assists all of our friends and especially our Latino friends answering any questions or concerns they may have. He is always ready to load up a vehicle with plants or hardscape materials! Children who come into the nursery love to find him and “help” him water the plants!
